American Wine & Cheese

VA Eats: Northside Social

With free wifi, a full wine bar, and a menu full of delicious comfort foods such as Chicken Noodle Soup, a Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and even a Cinnamon Red Hot Velvet Cake – Northside Social is easily my favorite spot to visit when I need a place to sit down and write; or just want to have a low key dinner and sample a few wines to pair with my food.

Now that it’s getting a lot more chilly outside, enjoy some warm comfort food and a hot drink indoors at Northside Social. Not only do they serve hot coffee, a variety of wines, beers, snacks, sweet pastries, salads, hot sandwiches and more – but there always seems to be something happening at Northside Social, whether it be a live band playing music to guests, an art exhibit, or even a guided wine and cheese pairing class.

Their food isn’t just your typical coffee house’s wrapped, refrigerated and tasteless lunchable either. With a smooth White Bean Puree soup that comes with pesto and bacon, a savory Crisped Pork Belly sandwich that comes with broccoli rabe, olio, santo, smoked mozzarella, and salsa verde on an italian feather loaf – each item on the menu is a pleasantly delicious surprise. The Chicken Noodle Soup was perfect, warm and buttery blend of just the right amount of egg noodles, small bites of white meat, and soft vegetables. The buttery and crisp Grilled Cheese sandwich, made with Mozzarella, Gruyere and Cheddar cheese was perfect for a cold rainy day, and the Red Velvet Cupcake was the perfect way to end the meal on a sweet note.

P.S. I went back and tried the Crisp Pork Belly Sandwich with their Potato Salad, and I have to say – so far nothing I’ve ordered has disappointed. If it weren’t so far from my house, I’d be going here every day to relax and write!

  • The crispy pork belly sandwich is my favorite there, but like you said–nothing I’ve ordered has been disappointing. They have awesome soft serve ice cream in the summer, too, made from farmer’s market ingredients.
