Lazy Girl Grub: 5 Step Sausage + Gravy Biscuits

Lazy Girl Grub is for the foodie on the go. Who said tasty meals were only made from scratch? Ditch the super long recipes and cook something equally delicious in less than 15 minutes.

Sausage + Gravy
{ I’m hover friendly! }

Please forgive the poor camera-phone quality. I had to snap these photos before my dad (an incredibly athletic 60-something year with the metabolism of a teenager) and brother (a starving 5’11 junior at UVA) gobbled everything up. I didn’t even have time to grab my giant SLR from my car to take a real picture, so… just trust chubbers in the hover-photo, because he knows what he’s talking about.

My dad and brother love sausage and gravy biscuits, but I can never wake up on Saturdays to make it for them during normal breakfast hours. So–instead of making the biscuits from scratch, I cheat a bit (*GASP!* I know… I’m normally all about cooking things from scratch, but with these boys–they’ll never tell the difference) and buy pre-made biscuit dough to save time. The sausage gravy’s the easy part. In five easy steps, you’ll have home-made, creamy sausage gravy in less than 15 minutes.

For the gravy:

  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Directions:

1. In a large skillet, combine sausage, and garlic. Cook over medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes or until sausage is browned and crumbly.
2. Stir in flour and cook for 3-5 minutes.
3. Gradually stir in half and half. Add pepper and salt and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until gravy is thickened.
4. Remove from heat and stir in butter until melted.

For biscuits, either follow this recipe or pick up a can of pillsbury biscuit dough (like I did) from the refrigerator aisle of your grocery store.

Good luck!
