Farmers & Fishers | Satiated Zombie

I mentioned a few posts ago that I wanted to try Founding Farmers‘ Sister Restaurant, Farmers & Fishers. I got a chance this past weekend to head down to the beautiful waterfront in Georgetown to grab dinner, and was instantly won over by the scenery and enormous water fountain that the restaurant overlooks. Farmers and Fishers is placed in one of the most romantic spots in DC, and is the perfect place to grab dinner. As for the drinks – be careful what you order! Although their menu offers some of the most fresh, exotic and delicious cocktails in all of Georgetown – some of these drinks do a great job of ending your night sooner than you may have expected.

[ Pisco Sour | The Zombie | Tuna Rollups ]

Both drinks pictured above are ones that I decided to try for the first time at Farmers & Fishers. The Pisco Sour is the leading cocktail both in Peru and Chile, but of course – both countries think their recipe is the best. Both call for Pisco, Fresh Lemon Juice, Egg White (as you can see on top) and Angostura Bitters. It may sound kind of funky, but compared to the Zombie (on the right) it’ll taste like a harmless glass of fruit punch, which is perfect to pair with a salad, or cold appetizer.

As for the Zombie, let’s just say I’ve recently turned 21 and clearly have much to learn about my liquors. One huge lesson I learned that night, is to know that if the drink calls for absintheproceed with caution – especially if you’re just looking for a low intensity cocktail to pair with your low carb appetizer.

After being trained on shots of patron early on, and learning to ‘shoot the whiskey’ in spite of Carrie Underwood’s doubts – there hasn’t been a single cocktail out there that I can’t down anymore. So after skimming through the ingredients of the Zombie, most of the reason why I ordered it in the first place was because of how intriguing the name was to me. Could a single cocktail really turn you into a brainless, slow moving mumbler? Unfortunately for me – absolutely. Don’t be fooled by the many juices listed in the description like I was. In addition to grapefruit, pineapple juice, lime and grenadine – the drink also calls for rum, absinthe (I’ve never seen Eurotrip, but for those of you who have – this is the drink that apparently made the siblings get a little wild), and angostura bitters. In addition – if it tastes like watered down robitussin in the first place, don’t be surprised if the after effects turn out to be similar to an over the counter drowsy cough medicine. It was drinkable, but half way down that glass – I was already feeling slow, and dizzy.

If you’re really looking to get wasted with just one drink – order the Zombie and drink it quick. If you are trying to have a nice evening, and aren’t planning on being knocked out before the sun even goes down – stick to the Pisco Sour.

[ Warm Curly Leaf Spinach Salad | Clams, Garlic, Bacon & Linguine ]

It almost completely defeats the purpose of a salad, but warm mushroom and bacon oil based dressing over spinach is heaven on greens. There isn’t anything that I don’t like about this salad, from the fresh crisp spinach, to the hard boiled eggs, to the slices of warm mushroom, and of course – to the bacon dressing. The aroma that the salad gives off from the bacon dressing is already enough to satisfy my senses, and the taste is just something that you’ll just have to try for yourself.

While most people have a sweet tooth – I have a salt tooth, and the Clams, Garlic, Bacon & Linguine at Farmers & Fishers is probably one of my new favorite pasta dishes, just because it definitely satisfies that craving. You really can’t go wrong with butter, garlic and bacon – but to add clams, soft linguine and a slice of bread for dipping to savor every drop of buttery sauce and bacon? That’s something I’ll definitely be back for.
